This 1-week programme is designed for farm workers and managers looking to enhance their skills level in pig production. With a 50/50 split between on farm sessions and classroom-based learning participants gain hands-on experience while building a solid understanding of the principles behind effective pig farm management. This course bridges between doing and understanding pig farming.

  • For whom
    This training is ideal for pig farm workers and managers who are actively involved in the day-today care of pigs and responsible for the daily management of a pig production unit. It is particularly useful for those who want to build their skills and understand the impact of management strategies that support efficient and sustainable production. The course helps you to grow professionally and contribute to more effective pig farm performance. There are no formal qualifications required but a basic background in pig farming is recommended.
  • What you can expect
    Participants can expect a dynamic and interactive learning experience where the trainers will use your practical on-farm situation to address management principles and give tips and address challenges you may have. Active participation is encouraged for this week. At the end of the training you will leave with skills that can be applied immediately and a clear understanding of the “why” behind everyday decisions on the pig farm.
  • Program
    The training covers a wide range of essential topics to support both practical skills and management understanding in pig production. Key areas include bio-security principles and how to implement this on farm, the relation between herd size, farm layout and planning. Participants will learn about timing of the inseminations and how to effectively manage breeding gilts to do a stead flow of inseminations. Feed and feeding systems as well as climate control will be addressed. Carcass quality of fatteners and AB reduction/AB free production is addressed.
